My Gaming History
My First Game
Some of us are told about the first game we played. I mean if you really want to go back that far I played Duck Hunt on the Nintendo System with my brothers at the age of four. The first game that I enjoyed and got really into was DOOM by ID Software.
I am taking you back to the days of games being released on 3 1/4″ hard floppy disks. The days where the thought of a 1 terabyte hard drive had never been heard of. My brother installed DOOM on the family computer. My parents had no idea what the game even was. They were still getting used to typing on an electronic keyboard instead of type writers.
If you haven’t played the original DOOM, then you definitely should. If you’re old enough that your parents won’t mind. It was (and still is with its new release) one of the best first-person immersive shooters. That’s why I said if your parents don’t mind you playing first-person shooters, you should play old DOOM and work your way through all of their games and then play the re-release.
After DOOM had been put on my parents computer. My brother decided that he wanted to try a game called EverQuest by Verant Interactive. This is the game that introduced me to MMORPGs. For those of you who don’t understand the abbreviation. It stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. I watched my brother play it all the time but he never let me play.
Sadly, EverQuest wasn’t the MMORPG that my brother would let me play. The first one I ever played was called Dark Age of Camelot by Mythic Entertainment. I had my own character and everything. The only downfall to this game back then, was the internet connection. We were still on dial-up.
As I stated on my home page. I’ve been playing games since I was able to follow instructions. They’ve continued to be a part of my life and I’m grateful for that because it helped me bridge a gap between my daughters and I.
There is a great online gaming community, if you haven’t found yet, you’re looking in all the wrong places. 🙂 Come hang out with me and my kids we love introducing people to the games that we all find amazing.
